CHILDHOOD LYMPHOMA-

Lymphoma-c3pc research foundation

This information has been told about the disease (lymphoma) found in young children, which is very important for everyone to know. Through this information, the parents of the children need to be more alert because this disease lymphoma is spreading very fast all over the world. Due to which innocent children are becoming victims of this. This question must be coming in your mind that if there is lymphoma, then we also tell you it's answer, what is lymphoma?

LYMPHOMA is a type of cancer called Blood cancer; this disease is the first in our body to develop cells called Lymphocytes of the immune system.

  • Lymphocytes are cells that fight infections in our body and increase our immunity.
  • It is spread like a net throughout the body. So that our body is protected from getting infected.
  • These cells affect the lymph nodes, bone marrow, thymus, Spleen (in the belly), Tonsils and adenoids (in the neck) and other parts of the body and destroy its function, due to which lymphocytes lymphocytes start changing.
  • Lymphoma develops when white blood cells called lymphocytes begin to function uncontrollably.
  • Lymphoma cancer is the third common cancer in children which is dangerous
  • Lymphoma is a common Cancer, In India out of 80,000 cases per year, approx. 4800 cases are HL
  • In children it normally peaks in the 10–19 years age group. And is more common in boys than in girls

There are two types of lymphoma- 1. Hodgkin Lymphoma

2. Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Hodgkin Lymphoma - Hodgkin lymphoma occurs when the lymphocytes grow out of control.
There are two types of lymphocytes - B-Lymphocytes and T-Lymphocytes

  • Hodgkin lymphoma develops from B-cells. In Hodgkin lymphoma, abnormal cells called rid Sternberg can be seen under a microscope. Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer in the lymphatic system.
  • Most children with Hodgkin lymphoma are treated successfully and cured.
Symptoms of Hodgkin lymphoma include painless swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck, underarm,

groin, or chest, trouble breathing, night sweats, fever, and feeling tired. Lymph node biopsy is needed to diagnose Hodgkin lymphoma.

Treatment may include a medicine, radiation, stem cell transplants, and surgery.

  • * 94% Survival in Children with Hodgkin Lymphoma in India.

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma-
Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) is a type of cancer in the lymphatic system.
This lymphoma is uncommon in children 3 and younger. Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas account for about 8 percent of childhood cancers. In children, doctors usually find one of four types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma: Burkitt lymphoma; large cell lymphoma; T-cell lymphoma; or anaplastic large cell lymphoma.
      • In general, the 5-year survival rate for children ages 0 to 14 with NHL is 91%. The 5-year survival rate for teens ages 15 to 19 is 89%. However, it is important to note that this depends on several factors, including the specific subtype of NHL and the stage of disease.

      • Symptoms depend on what part of the body is affected and where the tumor is. Common symptoms include painless swelling of lymph nodes, trouble breathing, night sweats, fever, and feeling tired. A lymph node biopsy is needed to diagnose NHL. Many other tests are also done.

      • Treatment may include medicines, radiation, Targeted therapy, chemotherapy, antibody therapy, biological therapy, stem cell transplants, and surgery.

      • Lymphoma Symptoms-

      • Common symptoms of lymphoma include:

      • Lumps in the neck, underarm, stomach, testicles or groin (sometimes called “swollen glands”

      • Fever

      • Night sweats

      • Feeling tired

      • Weight loss (without a good reason)

      • Itchy skin

      • Feeling out of breath

      • Cough

      • Chest pain

      • Poor appetite

      • Swollen belly

      • Lymphoma treated-

      • Different types of treatment may be used for children with lymphoma

      1. Chemotherapy
      2. Radiation therapy
      3. Targeted therapy
      4. Antibody therapy
      5. Radio Immunotherapy
      6. Surgery
      7. Biological therapy
